Chipped, discolored or misshapen teeth can affect how you feel and how you look. Repairing these dental problems can instantly boost someone’s appearance, dental function and self-esteem. Porcelain veneers are a great way to achieve a more attractive smile. Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells that are bonded to the front of a tooth or teeth to give them a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Whether you are looking to change the size, color, shape or length of a tooth, these veneers can help give you a more natural and beautiful smile.
When your teeth are less than perfect, porcelain veneers can offer you a natural and beautiful look. From misaligned teeth or irregularly-shaped teeth to chipped, worn or broken teeth, porcelain dental veneers can be used to enhance the appearance of your smile by correcting discoloration, making teeth appear longer, straighter or more evenly-shaped, or to fill in gaps between teeth.
There are other options for correcting damaged, crooked or gapped teeth. Dental veneers enjoy a number of advantages compared to other tooth correction options. They are more stain resistant than resin veneers and are closer in appearance to one’s natural tooth, for example. They also are cost-effective and maintain the health of your natural teeth.
1. Diagnosis and dental treatment plan – During your initial visit with us, your teeth will be examined to see if veneers are the best option for you. A dental impression or x-ray will be taken during this visit to assess the health and underlying structure of your teeth to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for dental veneers.
2. Tooth preparation and design – To place a dental veneer, a thin layer of enamel must be removed from the surface of your tooth or teeth. This is done under a local anesthesia to ensure no pain or discomfort is felt during this procedure. A model or impression will then be taken of your tooth to customize your veneers to fit your distinct smile. In the meantime, temporary dental veneers may be put into place while your custom veneers are being designed.
3. Bonding the porcelain veneer onto the tooth – After your tooth is cleaned and etched to create a stronger bond, your customized veneers will be bonded to your teeth. A special dental cement is used to secure the veneer into place. Once the veneer is properly adjusted, a light beam will activate the cement’s hardening properties to cure the veneer, securing it into place. Final adjustments are made and a follow-up appointment may be scheduled to ensure your gums respond well to the placement of the veneer.
Regular maintenance will be needed to ensure the optimal health of your teeth and veneers, including regular brushing and flossing. IF they are cared for properly, porcelain veneers can last up to 10 years before needing to be replaced.
